Newer version: Ventari v2

The 22.5mm wide, 125mm blade navigates tight spaces and executes sharp turns during cutting, thanks to a well-crafted tip.
Through extensive testing in 2019, the Ventari proved its mettle on various deer species across the UK and Europe.
Some knives are designed; the best are bred. The Ventari is a deliberate cross of two proven lines — the Cael’s dexterity and the Garron’s backbone — drawn into a single 125mm blade.
Through an extended season of testing in 2019, the Ventari was worked on a range of deer species across the UK and Europe — muntjac to red, lowland woodland to the open hill. What came back was consistent: the well-crafted tip and 22.5mm blade navigate tight spaces and execute sharp turns mid-cut in a way few knives this size manage. The testing shaped the final edge geometry and confirmed the proportions before the first customer knife was made.
If your ground holds everything from muntjac to red, and one knife has to serve the whole card, this is the blade we would put in your hand first. Enough length for the big animals, enough finesse for the small ones — and enough toughness for the fieldcraft that happens between them. It is the definition of an honest all-rounder, built up from two specialists.
The Ventari v2 offers the same blueprint an inch shorter, for those who bias toward the lighter end of the work. Handling both for a minute usually settles the question better than any description can.
The blade can be ground from RWL-34 or PMC27 — our everyday stainless steels, chosen for edge retention and low maintenance — from AEB-L when outright keenness matters most, or from traditional O1 carbon tool steel for those who enjoy a blade that asks a little care in return for a superb edge. Our own stainless Damascus, pattern-welded in-house from RWL-34 and PMC27, is available for commissioners who want the pattern of the steel to carry the story.
Handles run from stabilised timbers and burls through to fossilised mammoth ivory, pinned in stainless, brass or copper — or with mosaic pins when you want a flourish that only shows itself on close inspection. Initials, a family crest, or a lifelike species study can be laser-engraved in-house on the blade or bolster.
A Ventari leaves the workshop in a sheath made at the same bench — moulded to that exact blade, so it clicks home and stays there. Choose leather in black, brown or a custom colour, plain or hand-tooled with the option of engraved silver panels; or Kydex on our hybrid leather carry system where the season is wetter than the wardrobe allows.
No two Ventaris leave the workshop quite alike, and each one is treated accordingly: numbered, recorded in the ledger, warranted for life against manufacturing defects, and dispatched sharpened, papered and insured. It is the sort of record-keeping that matters on the day a knife becomes an inheritance.
When you are ready, design yours in the design tool or simply start the conversation — the finished piece always comes out of one.
Sharpened, papered and ready to send from Petworth. Sold pieces stay listed for reference.

Every commission starts from the Ventari blueprint. Set the steel, handle material, engraving and sheath in the design tool, and we’ll come back with a quote.
