The Talos takes its inspiration from the traditional Sami fisk knife — a northern working pattern with centuries of hard use behind it — and rebuilds it to Emberleaf standards.
The 125mm (5″) blade, 32mm wide, gives it genuine substance for camp and survival work: shelter poles, fire wood, heavy food prep, the structural end of bushcraft. Within our military range the Talos holds particular regard, favoured for exceptional performance and reliability where equipment failure is not an option — praise we take seriously, given who it comes from.
An optional back bevel is offered, thoughtfully left unsharpened — trimming weight while adding durability to the tip for prying and heavy point work. A stainless-steel pommel cap comes as standard, so the butt of the knife can take honest hammering without complaint. These are working details from a working tradition; the Sami did not decorate their tools with anything that could not earn its place.
Practitioners who spend real nights out, expedition members, and service personnel who want a big northern blade with modern metallurgy behind it. Alongside a smaller carver like the Bran or Rike, it completes a two-knife system that covers the whole woodland workload.
The blade can be ground from RWL-34 or PMC27 — our everyday stainless steels, chosen for edge retention and low maintenance — from AEB-L when outright keenness matters most, or from traditional O1 carbon tool steel for those who enjoy a blade that asks a little care in return for a superb edge. Our own stainless Damascus, pattern-welded in-house from RWL-34 and PMC27, is available for commissioners who want the pattern of the steel to carry the story.
Handles run from stabilised timbers and burls through to fossilised mammoth ivory, pinned in stainless, brass or copper — or with mosaic pins when you want a flourish that only shows itself on close inspection. Initials, a family crest, or a lifelike species study can be laser-engraved in-house on the blade or bolster.
A Talos leaves the workshop in a sheath made at the same bench — moulded to that exact blade, so it clicks home and stays there. Choose leather in black, brown or a custom colour, plain or hand-tooled with the option of engraved silver panels; or Kydex on our hybrid leather carry system where the season is wetter than the wardrobe allows.
A Talos is built to outlast its first owner. Every knife carries a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects, is numbered and recorded in the workshop ledger before it leaves the bench, and ships sharpened, papered, signed-for and insured. When one comes back years later for a fresh edge, we can look up exactly when it left and what it was made of.
If this is the pattern, the next step is a conversation — or set out the rest of it first in the design tool, and send us the draft.

Every commission starts from the Talos blueprint. Set the steel, handle material, engraving and sheath in the design tool, and we’ll come back with a quote.
